Cooking on the Edge of Insanity edition by Emily Rosenbaum Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks

Emily Rosenbaum is that mother; you know, the one who avoids chemicals, minimizes food waste, shops locally, fears sugar, hides from corn byproducts, and tries to convince her son that lemonade is not a fruit. Don’t even get her started on BPAs. Six years after making her first batch of muffins, she’s not just pureeing squash and baking bread. She’s forming little lumps of chicken-apple-spinach mush into nuggets, coating them in homemade breadcrumbs, and lovingly brushing them with olive oil. She is poised on the edge of craziness, unless she toppled in last Tuesday.
In Cooking on the Edge of Insanity, Rosenbaum shares recipes and tells the tale of living sustainably while cooking for a family of five.
Don’t bother to tell her she’s nuts. She already knows.

Being a professional chef I rarely read cooking books anymore and never watch cooking shows. Since my friend Caution recommended this I gave it a read. Funny and informative fo sure. Recipes all look sound and delicious. I tend to not use recipes but I will keep this on my iPhone kindle just in case. Thanks for the laughs.Product details

Cooking on the Edge of Insanity edition by Emily Rosenbaum Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews
This book hardly had any receipes. It was mostly the writer bitching about her kids and the environment, etc. The receipes which were in the book were all for kids and hard to make. Who has time to ground up chicken and veggies to make homemade chicken nuggets?
If you're looking for a cookbook don't bother buying this...
Had to stop reading a few pages in due to unnecessary foul language. Might of had good content, but I could not get around the use of profanity in a book about food. Wasted $3.
This is a great cookbook. It is fun to read and full of good information and recipes for more healthy eating. I can't wait to try some of these recipes.
Emily mixes fun anecdotes with healthy farm to table type kid-friendly recipes; not your ordinary cookbook!
Highly recommend this for parents!
A funny, engaging, quick read that includes many interesting (and healthy) recipes. I enjoyed reading it purely for its entertainment value, but may just have to incorporate some of these recipes into my own picky preschooler's menu. The writing captures what it's like to cook for your children while trying to consider their health, environmental concerns, allergies, and the general quirkiness of kids. I appreciate the author's tongue in cheek, down to earth manner, not to mention her acknowledgment that sometimes, you just gotta order takeout.
For a sustainable living cookbook, this is a very fun read, on a couple different levels. On the one hand it is a cookbook for cooking without BPA, processed sugar, white flour, soy, or any non-local non-organic ingredients, on the other hand, as her funny stories between recipes attest, it makes clear the near impossibility of really living up to this ideal in corn syrup drenched America, with delicious Chinese food always just a phone call away. On the gripping hand though, in the end she shares the rich rewards from getting most of the way there from fresh vegetables from your local farm, to the satisfaction of making your own bread with your children.
This book offers plenty of recipes; but for me, it was more about inspiring readers to be creative and inventive in the kitchen. The recipes are based on a philosophy of using locally grown, organic and unprocessed foods. But unlike many other cookbooks I've encountered, this one is not designed to make you feel guilty or inferior. Rather than being preachy, this book is delightful and entertaining, written by a real person with a real family and real food challenges. It's like reading an email from your best friend. Even if you never cook, it's worth much more than $3 just for the pleasure of reading it.
